This wedding dress is 100% upcycled from a sail, specifically a spinnaker, a lighter weight sail used when headed downwind. The sail was donated to me by a family friend. This dress was inspired by my parents, who sailed around the world for 10 years, circumnavigating the globe three times in the 80’s. My parents recited their vows standing on the deck of the boat they sailed around the world and it is such a beautiful story.

The design features a high low bubble hem, just long enough to not touch the deck of the boat. The babydoll shape offers comfort and ease with an easy access zip in the back. There is a sailor collar around the neck to further pay homage to mum’s wedding, as her bridesmaid’s dresses featured sailor collars. The bride graces the runway, or deck of the boat, with a twelve foot long veil, also made of the same sail material, that floats beautifully in the wind.
